HempGro seed grows well in Manjimup research trials.

The three seeds HempGro have in stock at this time have grown extremely well in Manjiumup - at both times of sowing.

On Tuesday 2 Feb, 45 people were shown the growing outcomes of this season Industrial Hemp Variety Trials (IHVT) at DPIRD's  Manimup Field day.   HempGro’s three seeds, Fedora 17, Fibror 79 and Orion 33 performed well.

Our three are a few of the ten varieties in the trials: a number from Poland, Canada and Australia.

HempGro seeds germinated well, have good seed heads on them and are already setting seed for harvest.   It is now a race to harvest before the parrots take their fill.

DPIRD have run these trials now since the inception in 2018 when they partnered with HempGro to start trialling for finding the best seed for our State and region.

Shahajahan Miyan and Don Telfer from DPIRD and AgriFutures representatives John Muir (agronomist) and Mark Skewes (AgriFutures/SARDI lead research officer) were at Manjimup to talk everyone through the plots and explain where the trials are going next.  There is one more year of funding to gather information on Industrial hemp varieties.

The plots will be harvested in the coming weeks with measurements taken on number of seed harvested, protein, oils and nutrition of each variety. This will give the industry a good gauge as to what can be expected off each variety grown for the trials.

Results will be available on both DPRID and AgriFutures web site when they are complete.
