Meeting farmers and businesses in Collie

The meetings in Collie were a huge success with discussions around bioplastics and animal bedding. 30 farmers know more about how to grow hemp.

Collie Meetings a Success

There was a great deal of interest in HempGro’s information meetings in Collie last week.
A number of different stakeholders attended from Perth, Harvey and Bunbury.  It was easy to see that there was interest in bioplastics, with a company in WA already eager to start working in hemp for their composites.  Some of the other industry discussions were around animal bedding and erosion matting.

HempGro saw a future for Collie due to the transport hub that has been created in the area and also the 100km radius of growers who could feed the processing facility.  There is also a grant in for a mobile processing unit in the Great Southern which, if awarded, will be a huge kick start to farmers in Industrial hemp in all regions south of Perth.

Over 30 farmers attended the lunch time talk to hear how hemp may fit into their system, what is required to grow it both agriculturally and legally.  As always, industrial hemp created a great deal of questions around legal growing and ability to make money off the crop.  Most farmers went home a great deal more informed and pondering the next move to grow or to wait a season.
